The City of Huntsville Main Street Program is hosting the second annual Bacon & Brew Fest in downtown Huntsville on Saturday, April 27, 2019. The family-friendly event is from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Festival goers will enjoy live music, free bacon sampling, various items for sale from vendors, and brews. There will also be activities for kids, including bounce houses and games.

Enjoy a half-hour of developmentally appropriate activities featuring stories, songs, and rhymes Mondays at 10:30 a.m. This program introduces little ones to the story time experience and is perfect for developing language and vocabulary. Sign-up is not required.

Pilates is a great way to strengthen your abs, reduce back pain and hone your focus. Pilates student teachers from the SHSU Department of Dance teach a weekly class on Mondays from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. in the Staggs Community Room at the Huntsville Public Library. Classes end April 29th. Pilates build strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine. Benefits include production of muscle tone that doesn’t create bulk, overall slimming, greatly improved flexibility and increased mobility, even in just a short time. Please bring your own towel or mat. Consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The Huntsville Public Library is partnering with the SHSU Center for Community Engagement for this program.

Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! It’s an exercise program offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older.

When researching your family tree, there are several tips and tricks that can save you time and trouble. Come to the Huntsville Public Library from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 to find out more. Walker County Genealogical Society member Emmy Bushman will share some secrets that will help you with your research. Future meetings will be May 21 and June 18 in the Huntsville Public Library’s Dickenson Genealogy Room. Registration is required. The sessions are sponsored by the Walker County Genealogical Society. Story Time is a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under at the Huntsville Public Library. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts three times a week in the Staggs Community Room. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. Story Time offers caregivers and parents an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. There is something new each week! Sign-up is not required. Story Time is held on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday mornings, and Friday mornings.

Sign up now for free Spanish classes! Instructor Beth Williamson will be teaching two levels of Spanish on Wednesdays in the Huntsville Public Library’s Community Room. Beginners Class will meet from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Intermediate Class from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The 16-week program begins January 16, 2019 and all materials are provided. Register now to reserve your spot – only 35 students maximum for each class.

The Huntsville Public Library is pleased to announce an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts and newcomers alike to meet with experienced and qualified genealogical researchers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One-hour sessions will be offered weekly on Thursdays. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendance will be limited to no more than four researchers. The small group will allow each participant to receive individual attention. Sign-up is not required. This program is for adults 17 and older.

The Huntsville Public Library, in conjunction with the Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Law, Engagement, and Politics (LEAP) Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Walker County will present a free Citizenship Preparation Course. The class will be held from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays beginning March 21st through April 25th in the Huntsville Public Library’s Staggs Community Room. The course is designed to prepare immigrants for the U. S. Naturalization Test and will cover the application process, oral interview, and exam. All necessary materials will be provided. The classes are taught by Mike Yawn, Political Science Professor at SHSU. Space is limited and registration is required, so sign up at the library early.
