With recent growing crime trends, the Huntsville Police Department is taking strategic steps to help lower crime rates. This is hopefully the first of many Neighborhood Watch meetings that we will have for our community members so they are aware of what's going on around them. We will also be covering what programs and services are provided by the Police Department as well as safety tips for citizens. The meeting set for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Huntsville Police Department, is FREE and we would encourage anyone who is able to attend to do so.
The City of Huntsville Parks and Leisure Department will host a free Scotts® Major League Baseball® Pitch Hit & Run™ and MLB® Jr. Home Run Derby Competition for boys and girls, ages 7 to 14, Saturday, March 3rd, at Kate Barr Ross Park. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with competitions starting at 10 a.m. More information here.
Remember - Recycle Grease and Antifreeze!
The City of Huntsville Solid Waste Services Division offers free, year-round recycling, for residential customers at the Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 590 I-45 North from 7:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Other items, including oil filters, are recycled in specifically marked collection barrels. As they are flammable, neither gasoline nor diesel from lawn equipment or vehicles will be accepted for disposal or recycling. Unfortunately, due to disposal restrictions, the Solid Waste Services Division is not able to pick up liquids on a curbside basis. If you have any questions, please call 936-294-5743.
