City Manager

Matt was born and raised in the Denver area before leaving for college at Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS ( where he met his wife). Matt graduated with a BA in History and Political Science. After a brief internship with Sedgwick County, KS (Wichita, KS), he was appointed 
City Manager of Herington, KS for about 3 years.  In 2001, he accepted a position as Assistant City Manager with the City of Wichita Falls, TX, where he stayed for almost 8 years.  His final stop before arriving in Huntsville was as an Assistant City Manager with the City of Farmers Branch.  Matt was appointed City Manager in Huntsville in December, 2012.

Matt is married to Micki.  MIcki serves as a Speech-Language Pathologist for Huntsville Independent School District.  Matt has two kids in the Huntsville Independent School District. 


The City Manager is appointed by the Mayor and City Council, and is responsible for maintaining effective communication between City Council, City employees, and the citizens of Huntsville. The City Manager works with the City Council, City Department Directors and City Staff to develop and implement policies guiding the City.  This general function takes a number of forms including coordination  of daily operations, long range development of the City; the formulation and the review of the annual budget; development and implementation of the personnel regulations, financial and administrative policies; and other actions as required by the Mayor and City Council or Code of Ordinances. 

Form of Government

The City of Huntsville operates under a Council/Manager form of government.  The Council/Manager form of government combines the strong political leadership of elected officials and the strong professional experience of a City Manager.  The Mayor and Council establish policy and law while the City Manager has responsibility for submitting the annual budget, directing day-to-day operations, advises City Council on matters affecting the City and appoints and removes city personnel.
